When Rose’s therapist recommends she adopt an animal, she is reluctant. Rose has tried it all to help her depression, and nothing has worked. But fate has other plans in store.

Rose went to the animal shelter expecting to rescue a dog, but she never expected it would be Sam who rescues her.

Author Note: This is a semi-autobiographical contemporary fiction short-story that features heavy themes of mental health, depression, and the reality of life for animals in shelters.
